Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour 2016

One of the biggest storms i have seen blow in made the photo op with the Melbourne Cup on the tarmac of Tullamarine Airport a fairly rushed job, and thankfully i had a very helpful security guard on hand to stop my Profoto OCF softbox from being blown down the runway. The shoot was organised to promote the start of the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour for 2016 which will see the famous trophy tour 34 destinations across Australia and New Zealand.

Jake Matthews UFC in Las Vegas

Wishing the best of luck to Jake Matthews in his upcoming UFC bout in Las Vegas with Kevin Lee the Motown Phenomenon to be held at the MGM Grand Las Vegas on July 8th, had the pleasure to do a photoshoot with him for News Corp at the XLR8 Gym in Epping before he left for the States. Trained by his father Mick the story will be in Fight Week in the Daily Telegraph

Variety is .........

One of the more enjoyable sides to being a photographer is the variety and surprises that work keeps throwing at you, over the last five or six weeks, mdphotography has set up lighting on site to shoot CEO portraits, built an on site studio to shoot a fashion look book,  shot stills and video of motorbikes over a 12 hour day, and had a late call up to fly to the Gold Coast to shoot the ITU Triathlon, these shoots amongst the more regular everyday work in Melbourne.

Conexus Financial contacted me with a brief to photograph UniSuper CEO Kevin O'Sullivan in their City offices, for a cover shoot and accross several pages inside. I used a combination of Canon speedlight flash and the Profoto B2 over a half hour shoot and supplied the client with over 20 images to choose from. Here is the image they used on their twitter feed:

At 2.30 on a Friday afternoon i was walking to pick my car up from the service garage and looking forward to getting home to put the feet up, by 6.30 i was at Tullamarine booked on a flight to the Gold Coast to cover the ITU triathlon for Red Bull. I am pretty sure the QT Gold Coast was a really nice hotel, but checking in at 11.30pm and out at 6.30am doesn't give you much time to find out, straight to the Broadwater Parklands to check out the course, the Womens event started at 9.30am, the Men's at 12.30 and was all over by 2.45pm. I was back in a cab heading to the airport by 3 and on a flight home by 6! The course itself was fairly short with a couple of climbs and lots of hairpin turns which mean the bike field was fairly tight with two main packs and no real breakaways. The temperature was also a few degrees above the average at around 29 celcius. This pic shows riders with the only typical Gold Coast view in the background, taken with the Canon 1Dx and the brilliant EF 200-400 f/4L USM Extender 1.4x

I always look forward to working with Kate and Cameron from 776BC, we built a studio to shoot a Winter Look Book of their clothing range inside Port Melbourne Yoga Studio Bodhi and Ride. To produce images with a white background to display on the web i used a combination of five Profoto lights and three battery packs, the B2, B3 and B4 with a variety of brollies and softboxes

Another regular client Australian MotorCycle News are producing a LAMS feature in a few months time where they review five bikes of varying capacity and cost. We were on the Broadford track by 7am to shoot both stills and video content of five bikes for the feature, and stepped off the track at dusk. Some 2200 CR2 files and 268 video clips shot throughout the day.

And finally commissioned by Bloomberg to shoot the ANZ Banks CEO Shayne Elliott after their half yearly profit/loss statement. I was third or fourth in line of media sessions for the CEO and was lucky enough to do two very quick set ups with him, both with Canon Speedlights in a 90cm Octabox.

I love the variety of work i get to shoot, and especially the people you meet, if only very briefly, from a wide variety of walks of life.
